On my iMac I have no problem getting full screen display (in fact it's a bit more than full screen, I have to click on the green button top left to get the sizing triangle at bottom right back in sight). Being a translator myself, I prefer to have two screens, one next to the other. What system are you working on? What version of OpenOffice.org? I presume the View > Full Screen (Ctrl-Shft-J) isn't working? And the green button?
