Hi Guy, it is a matter of personal taste and comfort indeed. I have been following the saga in the mailing list, and it seems that some users are having serious issues with X11--crashing, lost focus in X11 windows, and worse. Ben Byer himself, Apple's sole X11 programmer, is working diligently to keep on top of the bug reports. On my Leopard machine, the only problem I have with OOo/X11 is the length of time the thing takes to start up if X11 isn't running in the first place. It chugs along for what seems ages, then the "Command timed out" message box we all know about pops up. Clicking OK gets OOo rolling fine. The work around is to have X11 running first. However, the discussion in the X11 list has focussed a lot on concerns with this delay in "cold-starting" X11 applications, and indeed the whole idea, ideally, is that the enduser should not worry about starting it manually--it should flash up quickly and reliably when you click on an icon of a program that needs the X11 server.

In the meantime--and yes I know what list I am writing to at present--NeoOffice seems a good compromise for the user who doesn't want to wrestle with getting used to another windowing system within the Mac OS. Mac users who want to use Neo should be advised that this list doesn't officially offer support to that port, but trinity.neoffice.org has lots of support to offer.

That all said, OOo is the original, and I for one am really keen to see a fairly stable beta release for the Aqua version.
