I should be possible to use your old projects in OOo (OpenOffice.org).
The current "official" edition cannot execute Word or Excel macros
written in MS VBA. OOo does have it's own macro programming language
called Star Basic, which is syntactically similar to VBA.

There is an extended edition of OOo available called OxygenOffice
Professional, which claims to offer VBA support and can be downloaded
from: https://sourceforge.net/projects/ooop

I cannot say how complete this VBA support is, but since it is free you
have nothing to loose by downloading and testing.

Hope this helps.
