Does openoffice open .PPS files?
Yes.
.pps document files are Powerpoint slide show files. They are
identical with normal .ppt Powerpoint document files: the only
difference is in the name. The idea is that the different extension
tells Powerpoint that the author wants this document to run directly
as a slide show rather than to open in Powerpoint as if for further
editing. Your presentation can look more professional if this is what happens.
When you install OpenOffice, you are given the option to allow it to
take over the association that your operating system (apparently
Windows in your case) keeps for Microsoft Office document file
types. But OpenOffice does not have the facility to run a slide show
without your opening it first in Impress and then using Slide Show to
run it. So, although the associations that can be taken over include
.ppt, they do not include .pps.
Options:
o Start OpenOffice and then use File | Open... (or the Open button
in the Standard toolbar) and browse to your document file.
o Rename the file so that its extension is .ppt instead of
.pps. Then double-click the file. (This works only if you accepted
the change of associations, of course.)
o Set up an association for .pps files to OpenOffice or
Impress. (Ask for assistance in doing this if required.) Then
double-click such files.
I trust this helps.
