The attachment was not sent to the list, maybe you can post it on a
website so you can get more help. In any case, how do you have your
options set up for doing backups (on Tools > Options, Load/Save,
General)? If there have been backup copies saved automatically, they're
in the folder that shows under Tools > Options, OpenOffice.org, Paths,
Backups.
What application is trying to open the file? Does the file have the .rtf
extension? If not, rename it so it does (since that should be the format
you saved in), and try starting Writer first and browse to the file
through File > Open. Make sure the automatic file extension option is
checked (ticked) in the Save As dialog.
Too late now, of course -- but if your book is your life, frequent
backups (perhaps to something permanent and transportable, like burning
the file to a CD) are highly recommended.
