Thanks, but mdbtools is listed in Synaptic and I already installed it. However, it did not create a launch item. And when I tried mdbtools and mdbtools-gmb from the command line all I got was "command not found." I can't find any documentation for it anywhere. However, that is now unimportant. I found that Kexi - the database from KOffice - happily opens the Access .mdb file and sets it up as a Kexi file. The import into Kexi lost the queries and forms, but all the tables are perfectly intact. The queries and forms can be easily recreated later. However, I am still not all the way home. Kexi uses SQLite-format-3, which OOo seems not to be able to understand. Not only that, I can't figure out how to merge the data from Kexi into AbiWord either - or even KWord! And the only way to get data out of Kexi is as .csv. I did so and OOo did merge the data from the .csv, but it was a pain. When OOo merges from a .csv it thinks the field delimiter should be the semicolon, so as not to conflict with the comma, which it thinks should be used for the thousands separator. That makes no sense if double-quotes are used for the text delimiters. Every time you do a merge you have to go in and carefully change the options. So at this point I have the data in the original Access file, and I also have it in a new Kexi file. And OOo can't merge from either one. The data file contains 43 tables, so manually exporting each one as .csv and then into a Base file would be painful. The data is test questions that I need to merge into a word processor that supports styles. That is because different parts of the questions are in different fields and I need to apply different styles to the different fields during the merge. I have not had to do this for a long time. The last time I did it I was able to merge into OOo Writer directly from the Access file. But my current OOo 2.3 can no longer read Access files, so I need to find some other way. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
