In Christian Love,

George

I had that trouble a few months ago

somehow one of the defaults got messed up.

in TOOLS/OPTIONS/Accessiblity
make sure ALL detech high contrast is NOT checked
they can mess with it.

I do not remember if I had to do anything more than that
but I would look at all of the font and color options in Writer
sections of Tools/Options.

I also one had to uninstall OOo and delete all of the OOo directories
in c:/Programs, then reinstall OOo. This resets all the options
and should get you back to all of the correct defaults. I had to make
sure the OpenOffice..... program directories. That is where the files
that record the default and options are stored. I had to do that once
when my printer setup information within OOo got messed up. I could
not figure out what happened and how to fix it.

SO I uninstalled and deleted OOo and its program directories, then RE-Install it.
All of my problems went away. If when you re-install the program, you
do not get the screen to add your identification and other information, BEFORE you get into the Writer program for typing, then you did not delete all of the
setup and running information for OOo.

It is up to you how far you need to go.
Try to go through the Tools/Options and see if you have one of them clicked on
when you do not need it, like the High Contrast options.

If all else fails, do the complete deletion and re-installation.
I have used OOo since its early days. I believe in it and use it
for almost all my document needs. Some times I do something
that tricks OOo it to replace a "bad" default that I cannot fix, so
I must do the complete re-install. Even with the problems I
come across when trying to do stuff that OOo was not ment to be
use for (but over time OOo does it better), I will not use MS Office
for anything I can use OOo for. A few minutes of inconvence, is
better that several hundred dollars going to Microsoft.
