You should remove the direct formatting that has been applied during the import
of the .doc file: select your whole text, hit CTRL+SHIFT+Space bar, the
settings of the Default paragraph style will be applied then.

Further to my e-mail below.

It seems that if I open a word doc in open office it does not allow a global
change of language. However if I copy the text from the word doc into a new
open office document then it is possible to reset the language.

I assume you are aware.

Subject: Wrong spell check dictionary

Hi, I have just loaded the latest version of Open Office and am giving it a
trial. So far very impressed.

I am loading a MS word document into Writer and using spell check. I have
changed the language to English UK in several places such as font,
paragraph, tools options but it is still using the English USA spell check
dictionary.

Even if I change it for one word, paragraph or whole document it goes back
to the USA version for the next spell error (well English spelling).

How do I permanently set the spell check to English UK for a copied
document?

Thanks

John
