If so, these will still be pointing to the old v2.2 which 2.4 will have overwritten. Have you tried going into your start menu/all programs and starting the program from there? Assuming you have completed the download/install process correctly, then Open Office can be accessed from the Start menu. It does not install icons on your desktop - you will need to do that yourself.
