The 2.2.1 version of Xquartz [a new and improved X11] just came out and is available here: http://trac.macosforge.org/projects/xquartz/ wiki/X112.2.1 . Download and install the package then log out and back in again.

OpenOffice volunteers are hard at work on an Aqua native version, but it's not ready for prime time yet. In the meantime [if you don't find satisfaction with the new Xquartz], you can try this older project: http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/index.php .
