Two suggestions:
o Is the delay whilst OpenOffice fetches new copies of the graphics
from the network? If so, this must mean that they are inserted as
links rather than directly. Go to Edit | Links..., select all the
links (you can do them together), and use Break Link to break the
links. You should then be able to delete any visible graphics present.
o Paste Special is - as so often - your friend. If you had pasted
the original material using Edit | Paste Special... (or right-click |
Paste Special... or Ctrl+Shift+V) instead of ordinary Paste, you
could have avoided pasting the graphics. As it is, you still use
this to remedy the situation. Just cut the relevant material and
paste it back into the same area using Paste Special. In the Paste
Special dialogue, either (in Writer) use "Unformatted text" or (in
Calc) remove the tick from Paste All and also from Objects.
