Hi Richard,

if you already have /vz/private/$CTID directory (as a mountpoint), you can just 
provide some its subdirectory to "vzctl create" and all the data will be stored 
there then:

[r...@tom private]# l /vz/private/ |grep 110
2097449 drwxr-xr-x   2 root 4096 Jan 29 19:10 110/
[r...@tom private]# vzctl create 110 --ostemplate centos-5-x86 
--private=/vz/private/110
Private area /vz/private/110 already exists
[r...@tom private]# vzctl create 110 --ostemplate centos-5-x86 
--private=/vz/private/110/real_private
Creating Container private area (centos-5-x86)
Container is mounted
Postcreate action done
Container is unmounted
Container private area created
Container registered succesfully
