I don't have any ideas. But: 

You really should use GWT to do this instead of an applet. I can't speak for 
everyone, and I'm not a maintainer, but I would not accept an applet into the 
ovirt-engine source code. It adds a very unnecessary dependency for the user 
(to have Java installed in the browser).
