No I don't have a better approach... if they are jpeg then if you
compress again with a lower quality then you'll get a lower visual
quality, obviously.

See in the ExtractImages source code, that one gets only images that are
used.
Btw you should be careful... compressing images with sharp edges as jpeg
will not look good. It might even be bigger. Jpeg is best for photographs.
