So I've worked in the wrong direction.
I've now tried the two cache changes. Printing to PDF works as slow as
before. Also my assumption that it would be at 1200 dpi was wrong, it
works at scale 1 = 72 dpi, maybe because the printer uses the same unit
as PDF.
