2018-09-20 17:54:53 UTC - Matteo Merli: @Xavier Baques the compatibility is
bi-directional. You can use 2.1.1 client with older brokers (1.x will still
work) and vice-versa: old client with new brokers.

New features only are supported in that case, but everything else will work.

2018-09-20 19:35:52 UTC - Dave Southwell: What factors should I take in to
account when trying to size the log and ledger disks for my bookie/broker
instances? I just ran `bin/pulsar-perf produce
<persistent://public/default/exclamation-output> --rate 5000` for a ~5 mins and
I now have ~13 Gb of used space on my ledger and log disks.
----
2018-09-20 19:37:25 UTC - Dave Southwell: I can provide the output of
`bin/pulsar-admin topics stats
<persistent://public/default/exclamation-output>` if more details are needed.

2018-09-20 19:38:35 UTC - Matteo Merli: journal disk -> < 10-20 GB
ledgers disk -> contains all data stored. Ledgers are deleted based on
retention. When a ledger is deleted, bookies will use a GC mechanism to reclaim
space. Default is to check every 15minutes and to do minor compaction every 1h
and major compaction every 24h.
----
2018-09-20 19:39:10 UTC - Matteo Merli: Compaction is needed because the data
files will contain entries for multiple ledgers
----
2018-09-20 19:40:43 UTC - Matteo Merli: Default are generally targeted to have
the data being deleted from disk in few hours. They can be tuned to be either
more aggressive in reclamining or more relaxed (to have lower compaction
overhead)

2018-09-20 19:42:05 UTC - Dave Southwell: Ok. Sounds like I need to do some
more configuration. Thanks!
