Andrea,
WAS somehow doesn't evaluate the JSP EL in the pages. I know it was in
a fixpack for WAS 6, but since you're using WAS 6.1 it should work ok.
I've also checked the web.xml and that has the correct schema/version in
there as well. Could you check the WAS log for deployment errors/warnings?
