Charles, Apache Felix Karaf includes support for the 'Tanuki' wrapper that's commonly used to run Java software as service. You can create the basic files required to run Karaf as a service by installing the "wrapper" feature and then executing the "wrapper:install" command. It should also provide you with the instructions to get everything set up in the console iirc (I don't have a Windows machine at hand right now to verify that right now).
