The caldav URL I am using is:
https://mail.nhusd.k12.ca.us/SOGo/dav/chobbs/Calendar/personal/
Wolfgang correctly guessed at my error. I was using the
Calendar->Subscribe menu to try to get access to the Calendar. The
correct process was to go to the Account Tab under Preferences and
create a CalDAV account with the appropriate username and password
pointing to https://mail.nhusd.k12.ca.us/SOGo/dav/chobbs/
With that done, iCal works perfectly.
