^^^^^ The spamd tool is run as a daemon. You want spamc
here. Start spamd in Mandrake, RedHat, and I believe SUSE with the
"chkconfig spamassassin on;service spamassassin start" mantra if a
"service spamassassin status" does not report it is running.
