(70 is 01110000 so the lower 3 or 4 bits are already 0's, whereas 07 is 00000111 .. THAT becomes 000000000 and is indistinguishable from black.. but then, so is 07, to my eye)

In fact, 070707 is pretty indistinguishable from black. So is 000700, which should be the one we'd be most likely to see, because it's using green. But I still see it as black on my screen.

So, I still don't see how you're asserting that it would fail.
I had misunderstood what you were trimming. Another of your posts made it clear.
