The problem with that is that many Distros don't release upgrades very often. The only problem you are likely too have in this regard is spamd located in a non-standard place. So check dates. It might be wise to uninstall the rpm just prior to doing the CPAN route. Be sure to follow and install all the pre-requisite cpan modules. There are some that just do not work, and won't build.
