From your screen shot, I'm guessing you're looking at it via View->Headers->All. You can see the original formatting (even in Thunderbird 2) using the Message Source function instead.

Menu: View->Message Source
Keyboard: Ctrl+U on Windows & Linux, probably Cmd+U on Mac
