The largest single commit I have seen is slightly over 53GB in size.  Not
sure what the exact 1.6 version was used at the time.  The server is a 
64-bit
Solaris machine.  I believe a Linux client was used.

I would recommend keeping commits smaller in size, but large commits are 
possible.
