thank you for your reply and your questions. It's

        apr-1.7.5       (current)
        apr-1.7.4       (previous)

There's no special USE-flag for threads, but if I execute the configure step of 
the ebuild, there is an output

        setting EXTRA_LIBS to "-luuid -lcrypt  -lpthread"

and in  include/apr.h  , there's the line

        #define APR_HAS_THREADS           1

May you point me to the issue you mentioned, please?

What is your version of APR?
Is APR compiled with thread support?
