You can override and extend Grid like this:

 * </ul>
 *

org.apache.tapestry.corelib.components.Grid
{
        private int rowIndex = 1;

        @Override
        public String getRowClass()
        {
                return rowIndex++ % 2 != 0 ? "odd" : "";
