Got this working in the end.
Put my service reference in the JobDataMap and accessed it like this from
within the job.
public void execute(JobExecutionContext pContext) throws
JobExecutionException {
IDataSource aDataSource = (IDataSource)
pContext.getJobDetail().getJobDataMap().get("datasource");
aDataSource.updateFromEmail();
}
