Anyway, when using 1.5 compiled class with 1.4 jvm you get java.lang.ClassFormatError from classloader :) What ever happens, a jvm crash is a very rare event and should pretty most of the time considered as resulting from a bug in jvm, as state the message comming out of jvm when this happens ;) Error in java code itself of bad mix of classes version always result in exceptions, not crashes.
