32-bit or 64-bit JVM?

32-bit JVMs typically have a maximum heap size somewhere around
1.5-2.0GiB. If you want a bigger heap, you'll need a 64-bit JVM (and
of course a 64-bit OS). When Solr "starts unresponsive", do you have
any logs that describe the problem?
