I agree. If Tomcat goes down but has a chance to log a message it will do so.
If there is nothing related to a shutdown it seems Tomcat died without any
grace period. One would have to check for possible reasons (one of which even
could be a 'kill -9'). Such reasons would typically come from outside Tomcat.

if Tomcat /JVM crashes silently, please also watch out for files with name
hs_err_pidXXXX.log (usually outside of the log subfolder).
The XXXX will contain the PID of the JVM process.
In my experience, either that hs_err file exists or the shutdown is mentioned
in one of the files at tomcat/logs

I did take a look at the log files, but could not find any valuable
information. ( server started) deploying war etc. There is no information on
the server shutting down. The logging level is set at INFO in
logging.properties. Am I being shown the correct logging information?

Usually Tomcat runs rock solid for ages. You need to find out the reason for
the process to stop.
Have you had a look at the Tomcat logfiles?

Hi Chris,
I deployed a java war file to a remote windows server. However the Tomcat
server stops running after a few days / weeks. I need to run a monthly job,
therefore the job fails as the server is not running. I am unable to find any
information on this. Can someone please help. I can give me more details if
