It may not be worth the resources, but you can develop/use a download
manager could do this for you. Especially if these are large files, the
users may be happy to use something like that.
The manager would basically tell the service to start the download and
if you do something like resume functionality, it would probably need to
enter other records to show the progress.
Is there any open source download manager like that for IE and Firefox
(and what about Safari, Opera,....)? Getting people to install plug-ins
is often hard to accomplish, and is banned by nearly every company's IT.
