Hi, not an expert, but if the PID variable is empty or the pid file is
not there then you will have problems (like when the daemon was killed
before). Try this:
stop)
PIDFILE="/var/run/jsvc.pid"
if [ -f "$PIDFILE" ]; then
PID=`cat $PIDFILE`
if [ $? == 0 && ! -z $PID ]; then
kill $PID
fi
fi

The stop is just the same as mine.
[dpaw...@marge atom]$ tc stop
cat: /var/run/jsvc.pid: No such file or directory
kill: usage: kill [-s sigspec | -n signum | -sigspec] pid | jobspec
... or kill -l [sigspec]
Whilst running, is the file found in /var/run Brian?
