figured it out, am posting hopefully somebody can learn from this
all my configs were in order,
each tomcat was running good,
tomcat1 8080 ajp 8009
tomcat2 8081 ajp 8010
tomcat3 8082 ajp 8011
however i was creating a template in tomcat1 (that also had a virt host
of tomcat3) my cookies showed me as logged in to tomcat3
then when i seperated the tomcat3 domain i got the redirect error
because it was trying to redirect me to the already logged in page
(according to my cookies i was already logged in)

it was pretty simple, and i solved it by using lynx
