Origin is not in our possession/control the ATS deployment is a forward
caching only.

that smells like your nginx is refusing the connection
what about read your backends log and if that not helps provide more
informations about your currecnt configuration?

Today I have put further load on ATS on the fly (redirected port 80
towards ATS box). The site running nginx caused the 502 error (in the
squid logs) I tried the workaround of disabling keep_alive for
sometime and restarting services which resolved the issue but now im
seeing the following in the error.logs:
