Greetings,

I was just curious if anyone's been building ATS 10 on any of the Illumos
distributions? (playing with OpenIndiana, OmniOS here) I've been a long time fan of
Solaris and used OpenSolaris exclusively for everything until Oracle bought Sun and
closed up the OpenSolaris project, which I also contributed to at the time. I've
experienced a renewed interest in the OS but find now, as I did then that the open
source applications built on and for Linux don't necessarily port easily, even with
GNU tools. I'm contemplating switching one of my VPS systems over to OmniOS so
I'll muddle through it. Was hoping someone that's done it already could lop off
some of the analysis and R&D.
It may build, but we’ve officially dropped support for Solaris, as in, we don’t
make an effort. If someone wants to take on the support for the platform, I
don’t see a reason why we couldn’t continue to support it. But there are
currently no active ATS developers supporting Solaris.

Thanks for the reply sir.  It won't build out of the box that's for sure.  I've been tracking changes as I go but if there's no one else but me attempting to use it there's probably little value in having "official" support for it.  It's just a personal infatuation (the SunOS kernel) of mine and really don't see Solaris doing anything but going away soon.  Not sure about the Illumos distros (which is what OpenSolaris became when the OpenSolaris project closed - to the best of my knowledge) so there may be interest.  But I think more likely the Illumos usage on the web would be with SmartOS and virtualization with Bhyve or ??? and virtual machines running Linux to run ATS and similar rather than running a native Illumos compatible build.  I'll continue to see if I can get it to build and run I guess.  Not sure how difficult it will be so I'm reluctant to throw y hat into the ring and volunteer to be a maintainer of the port at this juncture  LOL 😁

Thanks again!!
