Interesting. I did stay in the first window. But now that you say it, I think I know what might have happened here. I'm using the SecureLogin extension for Firefox, which provides Javascript protection for remembered passwords by circumventing form submit and constructing a fresh POST request when activated. This might have confused the new window detection.
