Now wait a moment, let me be very clear that I prefer Wicket .. I don't want misunderstandings about that ;-)
Sadly reality is that PHP is more widely adopted. Apache comes almost by default with PHP. So I was wondering, does anything come close to Wicket, to ease the pain.. Or to have a stronger case for Wicket in discussions. So Scala is not an option either... it's on my wish-list to learn though. I'm aware of the Scala/Wicket integration.
