Actually, if you keep executing it like 20 times, eventually it works. But how to make it work from the first attempt? Is there an equivalent to %sql from command line using SparkSQL? I mean executing sql directly, like in %sql, without having to wrap it into sqlContext.sql?




4) There is no trouble querying hive tables from %pyspark. This works:
%pyspark
print(sqlContext.sql("select count(*) from mkbook.bkrating").collect())

Any ideas what's wrong with %sql?

I am using Cloudera 5.4.9-1 and Zeppelin 0.6.0.
