*Description*



The ideal candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and
7x24 production supports of the Production Database environments with a
rotating weekend on-call.



Responsibilities



• Install, configure, and manage development. staging, production, and
disaster recovery database environments



• In conjunction with application and server administrators; design,
implement, and manage HA and DR capabilities for the applications



• Implement proactive monitoring capabilities that ensure minimal
disruption to the user community



• Monitor and tune performance; working across application, server/storage,
database, and functional support areas to tune systems for optimal
performance



• Work with management and a security team to assist in implementing and
enforcing security policies.



• Create and manage user and security profiles; ensuring application
security policies and procedures are followed



• Installation, configuration, customization, maintenance and performance
tuning of SQL Server 2005, 2008 & 2012.



• Perform database optimization, administration and maintenance
(partitioning tables, partitioning indexes, indexing, normalization,
synchronization, job monitoring, etc.).



• Establish best practices for T-SQL Scripting and encouraging development
teams to follow these practices via mentorship and training.



• Work with Network Operations teams to troubleshoot network and server
issues and optimize the database environment.



• Establish and enforce database change management standards including
pushes from development to QA, on to production, etc.



• Participate in the design of new or changing programs



• Share knowledge by effectively documenting work



• Stay current with changes in the technical area of expertise



• Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of the assigned application(s),
functional area(s) or project(s)



• Work with the team to ensure the quality of the assigned application(s),
functional area(s) or project(s)



• Respond quickly and effectively to production issues and taking
responsibility for seeing those issues through resolution.



• Resolve database performance issues, database capacity issues,
replication, and other distributed data issues.



• Implement data models and database designs into physical databases.



• Prepares implementation plans for Database patching, upgrades, and
coordinate rollout.



• Performs advanced database administration activities including;
installation, configuration, monitoring, space management, and may design
disaster recovery procedures.



• Define Backup and Recovery strategies using Idera SQLSafe, Native SQL
Server Backup/recovery Tools, and Red Gate.



• Assist in the definition and implementation of database standards.



• Review scripts submitted by the Development team to ensure that all
standards are met.



Qualifications



• Supporting Microsoft SQL Severs 2005, SQL 2008\R2, (SQL 2012 a plus) and
Windows Server 2003\2008.



• Must have hands on experience with ETL, DTS, TSQL, SSRS, and SSIS.



• Ability to work with minimal direction, yet also able to work in team
environment.



• Expertise in performance tuning and optimization for SQL server, queries,
stored procedures, views, etc.



• Proven ability to quickly learn and implement new technologies



• Ability to analyze existing systems and make recommendations on which
technology best suits the business requirement for high availability,
Disaster Recovery or high performance.



• Expertise in troubleshooting and performance monitoring SQL Server
Database server (Query Tuning, Server Tuning, Disk Performance Monitoring,
CPU bottlenecks etc.).



• Expertise in TSQL and writing efficient and highly performing SQL
Statements.



• Expertise in SQL Server Internals, wait events, profiler, windows events,
etc.



• Extensive experience with database Merge and Transactional replication



• Demonstrated ability to solve complex database administration problems



• Thorough understanding of database performance monitoring and analysis
tools



• Experience in administering/configuring databases in a Windows 2008
clustered environment



• Experience with database disaster recovery planning and implementation



• Ability to work with application developers to analyze database
performance and connectivity issues



• Leadership skills to teach other Junior DBAs.



Minimum Education • 8+ years' experience in Microsoft Windows/SQL Server
Technologies.



• Bachelor's degree in IS or CS or equivalent work experience



• MSSQL 2008 certifications is a plus
