Not too long ago, someone on here mentioned a yen for a digital clock in
24 hour format. I just got one at Sam's Club (Wal-Mart's warehouse
counterpart) for about $20. It's not an LED clock, as I think was
requested, but it's LCD with nice, large numbers. The clock is made in
China and distributed by SWC, Bentonville, AR 72716; it's their Galleon
model. The clock provides date, day, and ambient temperature in degrees
Celsius. Those who want to could opt for 12-h/AM-PM time format and
temperatures in degrees Foreignheight.
I'm now reading this clock from across the room (4 m to 5 m) and can
clearly see all the information -- even the date and temperature. The
time numerals are about 56 mm tall and the other data is in numerals and
characters that are mostly 23 mm tall. I can easily see that it's 26.0
C in here, courtesy of the afternoon sun and clear skies.
Beware, though. They also have available an Atomic Clock for the same
price. It automatically updates itself via NIST's radio time signals,
but provides only the 12-h format and degrees Foreignheight.
Interestingly, the box gives the dimensions of the Atomic Clock only in
inches whereas the Galleon's box gives its dimensions only in
millimeters! I guess they figure that anyone not interested in Celsius
temperatures would not understand millimeters and those who do
understand Celsius temperatures don't need to know the dimensions in
inches. Makes sense to me!
