Tom Mattix (Atlanta Journal-Constitution),

Every week I forward the Sunday Features for Kids page to two young
grandchildren of mine in Utah.

I don't know about education in Georgia (although I must find out because I
suspect the worst), but in Utah they are also learning the International
System of units (SI), usually referred to as the metric system.

GeoFacts and Shortcuts, both on the same page as your feature, show SI units
as well as the antiquated King George III Colonial units. Since by any
measure, we will be in the 21st century in 2001, do you think that January
1, 2001 will provide you with enough time to convince your editor to permit
you to acquaint him with the necessary SI units so that he may allow you to
show these modern units in addition to the antiquated ones you are still
using?

Sincerely,

Norman Werling
