Thanks,

Our machine is a Brookfield.

Our machine also has a switch to "gm", After your message I understand they
mean grams not gram x meter as I thought before. Neither makes sense to me.

Thanks a lot.

Adrian

Adrian,

Wow. What a weird one. I've found a little information for you.

One company makes a viscometer that they say can be set to read out in
Krebs units or in grams. That makes absolutely no sense to me. However
their web page is
   http://www.brookfieldengineering.com/products/laboratory/ku.cfm

Another page
   http://www.pra.org.uk/technical/oils/stdoils.htm
contains a table and on a few lines dynamic viscosity (Poise, P),
kinematic viscosity (Stokes, S), and viscosity (Krebs, K) -- all at 25
C -- are listed for various oils they manufacture. There does not seem
to be a linear relationship; rather it is a power relationship (K
proportional to P [or S]^n where n<1). Fortunately there is a note on
the column for the viscosity in Krebs and it says "*** These values have
been calculated using the method described in ASTM D 562-81 (1990). "
Hopefully, if you can get your hands on that standard, you can convert
the units.

Remember that 10 P = 1 Pas and 10 000 S = 1 m2/s. Good luck!

Jim
