Andy,
The other day you said you received some calls from people using the old
"Communist Plot" BS against metrication. People like this you will never
convince, but those views can sway ignorant people to their side if some
counter-view is not presented.
Andy, I think you need to expand on this on your next program. I think you
need to hit your listeners with the fear of poverty. Explain how the real
"Communist Plotters" are those against metric. How they must really hate
America, because they don't want America to prosper. Ask your listeners to
think about their jobs or the jobs of friends, neighbours and families. How
many work in manufacturing? How many of those companies export? How many
people have seen their own company as laying off or near bankruptcy because
sales are down? How many are trying to turn to exports as a means of making
up for the loss of domestic sales? How many companies can't export because
their products are not "global friendly"?
You need to make your listeners see that metric=jobs. Not just any old
jobs, but good paying manufacturing jobs with benefits. The world wants
metric and won't buy products and services that are not. Also it is costly
to a company to produce non-metric for the domestic market and metric for
export. That the consumer pays the price of higher production costs and
lost revenue due to poor sales. If we want to sell to the world and we want
to make the world our customers, then we have to sell them what they want.
And they want metric.
I can go on and on, but I think you got the drift. I'm sure you or others
can refine this idea to make it effective so that people see the connection
between metric and a better than sound economy.
Let me know what you think of this idea.
