Lehrer News Hour,

At about the 15 minutes mark, give or take, I was proud of a surgeon being
interviewed by Jim Lehrer. The general subject was Dick Cheney's heart
condition.

Specifically they were talking about balloons and stints and Jim asked a
question in terms of inches of length of the stints. The physician kept all
of his answers totally within the framework of millimeters and discussed the
various millimeter lengths under various conditions. Jim Lehrer, although
he asked his first questions in inches, did not try to intervene or insist
upon conversion to answers in inches. We, your audience, do not need those
archaic so-called U.S. Customary measures when the interviewee is using
proper International System Units.

The International System of Units has been declared as legal and even
preferred by intelligent actions of Congress in the recent past while Gerald
Ford, Jimmy Carter, and George H.W. Bush were in office.

Sincerely,
Norman Werling

We, your audience, are ready for the International System of Units
(SI-metric).

Norm
