Regarding Eddie's question about lobbying (below):

It is my understanding that
(1) the USMA is chartered (in Colorado) as a non-profit organization (and
therefore pays no taxes) and
(2) that federal laws prohibit non-pofit organizations from doing things
that are considered "lobbying". (Those "lobbying" activities are delineated
in federal labbying laws, I think.)

Apparently a great deal of "educating" and "providing information", that we
might want to refer to as lobbying, does not technically constitute lobbying
in the legal sense. USMA most certainly does do as much of that as anyone. I
don't believe that any activity to persuade THE PUBLIC to accept metric is
conasidered lobbying. It is only when someone tries to persuade a MEMBER OF
CONGRESS that one must be careful not to so something which is legally
considered lobbying.

I, too, would be interested in knowing in greater detail what can and can't
be done because of federal laws on lobbying.

Regards,
Bill Hooper
