Bill,

A more precise and literal translation of "Messwert" is "measured value",
and "vom" is a contraction of "von dem" meaning "of the"; thus "v.MW"
translates as "of the measured value"; however, I must admit that
I had no idea what the abbreviated form "v.MW" meant when it was first
posted here.  Thanks for expanding this abbreviation for us.

I agree (of course) with your source that M. and E. are more correct
abbreviations respectively for the compound words Messwert and Endwert.
