Subject: HR 66 and HR 100
Dear Tim,
Thank you for your letter of July 6 indicating that you will discuss
HR 66 with Vernon Ehlers, and will take appropriate action in the near
future when the bill is brought forward. Hopefully, your appropriate
action will be full support of HR 66 if not cosponsorship.
On related legislation, I see that HR 100 is No. 75 on the Union
Calendar: "To establish and expand programs relating to science,
mathematics, engineering, and technology education, and for other
purposes."
As an engineering-physics educator at the post K-12 level, I hope that
you will also fully support HR 100 and add your name to the present list
of 44 cosponsors; for the benefit of citizens and the US in general, not
only for those moving on to higher education in science and technology.
I particularly like the provision for the development of "Master Teachers"
of mathematics, the physical sciences, and technology, who would receive
in-depth training in these subjects and be able to teach them with greater
understanding and competence than is often characteristic of teachers
trained only in departments of education, and fearful of the sciences.
Sincerely,
