We have this same problem on the railroad, especially for departures between midnight and 2:00 am.  Some of the passengers show up a day late. They wanted to leave "Friday".  We booked them on Friday, but they showed up at 0020 Saturday.  To them, it's still Friday; they haven't gone to bed yet.  At least with the 24-hour clock when 2359 changes to 0000 people get the idea that SOMETHING happened.
