Dear Jim,

Congratulations on this letter. It achieves a nice balance between
compliments and criticism.

I have used a similar technique for some years. I call it the sandwich
technique, and it is where you carefully place your criticism (the filling)
between slices of compliments. I have found this also very useful when I am
judging students work in events such as the 'Tournament of Minds' that we
have each year here in Geelong.
