John, I had to start a new message since my attempt to use "reply to all" on your html message kept crashing my Netscape 4.78.
A few years ago, I called some local McDonalds people and indeed the quarter-pounder patty comes out pretty close to being 100 g after cooking. As I recall, this was mentioned in Metric Today, but perhaps it was just put on this list server. It might also be on the USMA metric rules of thumb pages.
